i am so american

As most of you know --- I love my shows. Like I LOVE MY SHOWS. Even when I am stressed to the max, this girl has got to have her shows. I like the storylines, I like being faithful to a cast of characters (Desperate Housewives, I stuck with you to the end!), and I love having a little escape from my life. Pathetic - but shows make me feel normal, because Hollywood really creates some DRAMA.

Shows I have been watching:
  • Once Upon A Time {MY FAVORITE!!! --- hands down. Love it. Obsessed}
  • Desperate Housewives --- while I will miss the ladies of Wisteria Lane, the show has certainly run its course and I'm glad I don't have to witness another murder on that street! But kudos, you had a great finale!
  • GCB --- hilarious! Kristen Chenowith - I love you.
  • Smash --- Katharine McPhee, you charmed the pants off of me!
  • Biggest Loser --- what a crap season. Am I right or am I right?
  • Glee --- so curious about what the show will be like last year! Nervous this show has already run its course as well.
  • Modern Family --- best comedy since Friends
  • America's Next Top Model --- British Invasion? I still think I'm being punked. This is not okay. But I keep watching, I'm loyal like that.
  • Law and Order: SVU --- although Stabler is gone this season, I've still got Mariska Hargitay's back.
  • Grimm --- our Friday nights have been spent watching this fun fantasy meets cop show! Another favorite in this household :)
So you see. Not all happiness was lost this semester. I did spend most of my time with my nose in the books. But I also had plenty of screentime. I also watched a few episodes of the new season of Punk'd, which always gets me laughing. Tried out Betty White's Off Their Rockers (where the elderly punk the non-elderly), which is pretty funny. But I'm not into her monologues where she pretends to be a drug-doing alcoholic skank. No thank you.

Wow this has turned into kind of a confession about my  addiction  enjoyment of TV. Yikes.

Anyway --- I thought we could talk TV for a minute since it's the end of the spring season and most shows are wrapping up. What did you love this season?

Cheers :)

been missing you :)

Hello, friends!!! {new and old :) }

I apologize for my blogging hiatus --- seems to be a problem of mine lately! It has been crazy in my life lately! Neighbor issues {to put it mildly}...which I didn't want to vent about here, so I kind of avoided my blog altogether I suppose. Apologies --- I hope you forgive me :)

I had my LAST day of work on May 27th! With that last day came a lot of mixed emotions. I felt sadness that I wouldn't be working where I did anymore --- because I have never had a job where I learned so much and also made such incredible friends. I love my Rose girls deeply :) They are such a wonderful team, and I will miss them dearly. Another aspect to moving on from one chapter in life is the fear that you won't be able to maintain those bonds you made previously. I sincerely hope I am able to remain friends with these crazy girls, because my life wouldn't be the same without them!

While I was sad, I have to admit that it was also pretty awesome to be done with work! I was eagerly anticipating the start of PA School! Some days my nerves got the best of me, but I knew I was working toward the career I want. For those of you who don't know, PA is Physician Assistant. They are comparable to NPs {Nurse Practitioners}, and work with physicians in any setting you could possibly imagine. Chances are really really good that you have seen a PA at least once in your Doctor's office, and you probably didn't even know it {often people assume PAs are MDs}! Anyhoo :)

I had orientation last Thursday and Friday, and then really got into my classes on Monday! I have successfully made it through my first week, and it was HECTIC! But exactly what I signed up for :) Anatomy is I.N.T.E.N.S.E. Along with my other 3 lab partners, we have a total of 10 weeks to dissect a human cadaver from head to toe. Did I mention it's face-paced? Thus far it has been an incredible experience. Body bits and formaldehyde aside, it's super fun! I am pretty excited to have the opportunity to do this. All of my new classmates {class of 44, 38 girls : 6 guys} are awesome, and I think we're going to be a tight-knit crew, whether we like it or not, here pretty quickly!

So I will be mad crazy woman busy, immersed in anatomy, for the next 9 weeks. And I'm sure my "summer" will fly by in a flash! But I think blogging gives me a minute to slow down, organize my thoughts, and put things into perspective. So I hope I take the time to do it :)

Along with the start of PA school came a sad goodbye --- to cable television, on demand, and my dvr. If you know me, you know I'm a girl who has MY SHOWS! In the last 2 years while my husband has been diligently studying to become a doctor, I have been working 3 nights/week as a CNA...and then not a whole lot else. Which gave me lots and lots of time for mah showwzzz. I love TV. Like seriously. But I knew that once I started school: A) I wouldn't realistically have the time to watch tv. B) If I did find the time to watch tv, then that meant I was using it as a distraction tactic. And that = fail. So I decided to get rid of it all together. Yeah like we don't even have our digital converter set up. I literally haven't watched tv since May 31st. I feel like a recovering addict or something...

So that's a little update in my life! The dogs are definitely pissed that I'm in school for 9 hour days, because up to this point they have been ridiculously spoiled when it comes to having mom or dad at home with them. With Tyler home at night, and me home at day {I worked nights, remember?} they rarely had to be alone! So they are coping by being leechpuppies as soon as I come home from school and digging up the backyard while I'm gone. Thank goodness our backyard sucks and only has rocks, dirt, and that poor poor tree {the one Penny destroyed last summer...}. So I don't really care if they dig.

But I just wanted to update everyone since I got a few comments from friends along the lines of "Where the hell have you been on your blog?" and "I miss reading your blog!" :) I'm alive and well, just busy!

I did finish reading the book Shanghai Girls last night, and I also want to share our INCREDIBLE {I simply cannot be modest in this instance} potato green chili recipe with you. I have been craving it, and my wonderful husband made it for me for dinner last night! What a catch :) So stay tuned for my recipe and book review post tomorrow!

What have YOU been up to this summer?
Cheers to our new experiences :)

celeb crush revision

Hey hey!

Happy November!

Today, my plan of attack is to pack up Halloween, blow some kisses into those Halloween boxes, and wish it all well for the next 11 months until I see it again :) Then meal planning {and tons of recipes to follow, I promise}, grocery shopping, and a trip to the gym for a good sweat {work off some of my Halloween weekend...}

And in between my chores, I am working on making a dent in Season 4 of Brothers & Sisters. Season 4 brings the addition of Gilles Marini to the cast. And he is SMOKIN' HOTT. I hope you all know who I'm talking about. In case you don't...let me share the hotness with you:

To say that I have a crush on Mr. Marini is an understatement. I am realizing that I made a horrible mistake in my list of top 10 celeb crushes I posted in July. {If you missed that post, here's the link so you can check out some good looking fellas: http://kaitlynsambitions.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html} Gilles smashes so far beyond my previous #1 that he is an a completely different realm.

And it's not just his face that is pretty...

OMG. He first came to my attention {and my liking} when he starred on Dancing With the Stars a few years ago. There is almost nothing hotter than Gilles doing a Latin dance.

This Frenchman also showed us a different set of goods during the Sex and the City Movie. He kind of stole the show, I'd say. Now, I have a renewed interest in sticking with Brothers & Sisters :)

Yum yum. Just thought I'd share my adoration of a foreign sexy dancing family man. Happy Monday to you {and to me}

Cheers!

halloween a la heidi klum!

Hola!!!

I hope you are all enjoying your week before Halloween! I just got done watching the Rocky Horror Glee episode...and it was certainly entertaining! I'm actually STOKED because I have never seen the actual 70s movie, and I am going to a midnight showing of it on Friday night. Getting costume {corset} stuff tomorrow and I'm totally going to do my makeup so tran-glam! Excited excited excited is me. Have any of you seen Rocky Horror Picture Show? In one of those crazy environments where there's the audience participation: throwing toasting, spraying water, hollering in all the right places...crazy!

Anyhoo.
Needless to say, I am super excited for this weekend!

Friday night = party decorating.
Saturday = haunted houses, haunted corn maze, and epic party time.
!!!

What are your Halloween plans?

I was just looking at some pictures today of Heidi Klum's amazing Halloween history...and I had to share with you. Man, I have always loved her, but the incredible costumes she comes up with just made me love her even more! She gives new meaning to "going all out!" I read that she wears custom-fitted fangs and colored contacts {my dream!} every year as part of her costume! So here, for your enjoyment, are some of Heidi's previous costumes...

2001 - Lady Godiva

2002 - Betty Boop

2003 - Sexy Alien

2005 - Vampire Lady
how badass is this??? seriously.

2006 - Eve in Garden of Eden
She dressed as the snake within the apple - this was when she was 8 months pregnant. Brilliant!

2007 - Sexy Cat
The collar's tag said, "If found, please return to Seal." Adorable!

2008 - Hindu Goddess Kali
She. Goes. All. Out.

2009 - Raven

Damn! I wonder what she is going to be this year??? I am not a Heidi stalker. Just an admirer. Here is a picture from one of my favorite Halloweens - 2 years ago when we went dressed as the Simmonses --- I was Gene Simmons from KISS and my hubby was Richard Simmons!!!

Haha! I loved it!
Happy haunting to you!!!

Cheers :)

it's snooki time

Does anyone else out there reading my little blog find Snooki {queen midget bee of Jersey Shore} to be as hilarious, ridiculous, and fascinating as I do? Pretty much everything that comes out of her mouth makes me laugh hysterically...often to the point of snorting or even laughter-tears. At the risk of coming off as a complete nerd/moron hybrid, I have decided to compile a post full of my favorite Snooki quotes and moments.

Wahhhhh!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtmCZtV4PZA&feature=related

F*ck my life.

The friggin' duck phone.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzLs4_yPLZ8
{Sorry, you have to crank the volume up to watch this one!}

My ultimate dream is to move to Jersey, find a nice juiced hot tanned guy and live my life.

Pickles is my thing.

I am tanned; I like being tanned, BITCH!

 I can't see........... do you have any pickles??

The glasses are pretty much all crystalled out, all bling-bling, but when you put them on you can’t really see.. so I don’t think you can't drive with them.. because you’ll get a ticket.

Kookaaaa!

I can't see any ice creams, I can't see any customers, cuz I'm a f*ckin' Smurf.

I feel like I’m gonna be like a tornado. I’m just gonna go from place to place like destroying it.

Caller: Can I speak to Angelina please? ... Snooki: NO, she died.

Eating fried pickles was a life changing experience.

My first thought was: I don’t wanna clean this up. My second thought was: I just fucked up dinner. My third thought was: What the fuck am I gonna eat?

Hold my earrings, please...  In preparation for the fight against Angelina.

I don’t go tanning anymore because Obama put a 10% tax on tanning. I feel like he did that intentionally for us, like McCain would never put a 10% tax on tanning.. because he is pale and he would probably wanna be tanned.

She gives great advice. [in response to JWOWW saying, "Get some food. Feel better. Drink heavily."]

I’m not pissed off that they put pickles under my bed as a joke, but I’m pissed off that Mike and Pauly wasted two pickles.

That’sNotCoolThat’sNotCoolThat’sNotCoolThat’sNotCoolThat’sNotCoolThat’sNotCool.
Don't be shy, if you have an opinion Snooki or if there is a fab moment I have missed, let me know!

Cheers :)

sick sick

It's happened. I have a cold.

After working overtime and helping me to evade sickness for over a year, my immune system has finally decided to take a little vacation. I hope you're somewhere awesome, like Greece, Spain, or Fiji, immune system. You'd better be enjoying yourself a lot to justify abandoning me. I understand you need a little vacation, but please come back soon. xoxo, Me.

I need my immune system to come back because I am supposed to go to a Broncos game tomorrow! I've been a Colorado girl my whole life, and the Broncos have always been my team, but I have had yet to be present at an actual Broncos game! I admit that my interest in the team has been somewhat of a roller coaster ride, from my obsession with Elway, Elam, and Terrell Davis {apparently I wore my #30 jersey so often in junior high that some of my guy friends referred to me as the Terrell Davis girl! Keyan & Jason were these guy friends to those of you who know them!} to not even knowing the roster.
 A friend from work called me after our shift on Thursday morning and said, "Hey! Do you want to go to a Broncos game Sunday?" OF COURSE I DO! I was prepared to pay 50+ bucks to go, when she told me her parents have season tickets and will be out of town this weekend so they just gave them to her, so I won't have to pay to go. Lucky lucky lucky! I'm super excited, and I need my voice back so that I can cheer them on! {Another plea to you, immune system, please help me out!!!}

Being sick sucks. I worked Weds night just fine. Woke up Thursday afternoon with a sore throat. Went to the gym and got my ass kicked by Mr. Trainer man. He had me do basketball court-length sprints. Sprints are the bane of my existence. I proceeded to toss my cookies {actually, my muscle milk drink} as soon as I got home. I think that's when my immune system peaced out, because Thursday night at work, I was getting progressively more head coldish by the hour. Friday morning at the end of my shift, I told them I wouldn't be back for my Friday night shift. Dammit. I was four days shy of making it through my first year at my hospital without calling in! Oh well.

I just really hope I don't get to feeling way worse, because I have yet to find a doctor I know and trust in Denver. I love my Fort Collins doctor's office. I'm hopelessly attached to it, in fact. That's what happens when I've gone there for 20 years, I suppose.

I guess being sick has allowed me to catch up on my first week of DVR shows! Last night I caught up on Cougar Town {Loved Courtney & Jen working together again!}, Jersey Shore {BEST episode of the season, I say! Snooki is a star}, America's Next Top Model {how in the HELL is Ann doing so well? Good for her! Go away Esther and Lexie. I'm rooting for Rhianna to take it all!}, and Project Runway {go, MONDO, go!}.

I also got my books in the mail to help me prep for my PA school interview, so today I'll be spending some quality time with them. Looking forward to it, actually!

So here it is, 4:30 in the morning, and I can't sleep. Probably because my body knows I'm supposed to be at work right now. So I'll do some reading and hope that sends me off to sleep soon!

Hope you all have a sunshiny and fun Saturday!
Cheers ~

mama got a dvr

Well, let's face it.

I love TV.

Yep. I always have. I went from Winnie The Pooh & The Little Town of Richard Scary to Power Rangers & Salute Your Shorts to Doug & Clarissa Explains it all --- over the years just loving watching the imaginary life of people. It's so much fun to imagine myself kicking Puddy ass as maybe the purple ranger alongside the other power rangers.

And then in high school came a new genre of television that would change the world forever: Reality TV. Oh man.

Yep, I love reality TV. Even the stupidest of shows. Sometimes when I watch TV, it's to learn something {Animal Planet} or follow a slightly intricate plot {Law & Order: SVU counts, right?}. But other times, I watch TV to unwind and zone out, frankly. That's when shows like Jersey Shore and Bachelor Pad come in. haha.

Most of you know that I work nights {7pm - 7:30am} usually 3 x/week between Monday and Friday. Doesn't work out so well for my evening TV life. I actually made my schedule for the next couple of months so that I would have most Tuesdays off: That is how much I love Glee and The Biggest Loser! Haha. I have wanted a DVR for  REAL LONG time. Like for years. And with fall shows starting, I have been wanting it more than ever.

So, today I took a little visit to the Comcast store. I was dreading how long the line was going to be, as it can take hours sometimes {it could battle the DMV for longest, crappiest lines ever}. But off I went, with a book and a magazine in tow. I had to sort out a bill and pay a bill, and I figured it wouldn't hurt to check out the cost of a DVR. Turns out they have a promo going on for FREE HD DVR for a year!!! I was trying to keep my excited quivering to a minimum as the lady behind the counter asked, "Should I go ahead and add this service to your account?" UM -  HELL YES, YOU SHOULD! But I managed a cool, "Yes, please, that would be great!"

Not only do I get my coveted DVR, but we get free HD channels {we bought our bombass giant TV months ago, but hadn't wanted to shell out the monies for HD TV yet} for a year! $Free.99 is my favorite price, y'all.

And with our new DVR box, another problem got sorted out. Since we first got our cable box over a year ago, there has been a little issue with the Disney Channel and The Animal Planet. They simply wouldn't stream. Or they would be all jumpy, and it was REAL annoying to watch. Sounds stupid, right? Until Aladdin is on TV and you want to watch it. Or It's Me or the Dog is on. I was so annoyed and never wanted to pay the $50 service fee for Comcast to come mess with it and probably further screw things up. You might even be able to pin my Disney movie buying sprees on the fact that I was tormented by the inability to watch Disney on TV. Or maybe I would have  bought all those movies anyway. Guess we'll never know. The important thing is that I have my Disney and Animal Planet back! YES!

As I'm sitting here setting up recordings, I have my shows that I planned on watching anyway {although most of them I would have had to watch a week later when they were put online, and then with crappy internet commercials or interruptions when my internet decides to disconnect sporadically}, but I am also adding a few shows that I have been wanting to check out anyway.

Here is my list of DVR shows.
Don't judge me.
And keep in mind that only working 3 nights/week and having a husband in med school gives me LOTS of extra time to myself. And you can only read, work out, play with puppies, and do house stuff for so many hours in a day.

Jersey Shore
America's Next Top Model
Project Runway
Glee
Biggest Loser
Desperate Housewives
Scream Queens
Modern Family

Now, here are the experimental add-ons that the lil' DVR guy is allowing me to watch:
Drop Dead Diva
United States of Tara
Hellcats
Vampire Diaries
Gossip Girl {this is for you, Linds ;)}
The Middle
Cougar Town {which I have always LOVED, but it hasn't been a priority show}

I know, I know. I'm kind of pathetic. But at least I am honest and pathetic. Right? Sure.

Happy fall TV week!
Are there any shows starting up this week that you would recommend I lose myself in??? What are your favorite shows? I certainly don't want to miss out on anything! Haha :)

Cheers, you lil' DVR Magic Man.
